Last revision: 11/7/2023
The model-driven application content is designed to allow you to use the forms and workflows as is for inventory, job, quality, and work order management, or to customize them to meet the requirements of your specific production environment.
The content is being delivered as the following Work Tasks packages:
This version includes localization for all packages for the following languages: Chinese (Simplified), French, German, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. It also includes a Language Installation wizard to simplify the set up of localized files.
What's New in This Release
The following AVEVA software is required for using MES model-driven application content.
Note: Work Tasks Connector and Extension for MES is no longer required for the standard workflows that are included in the MES model-driven application content. However, if you are upgrading the MES model-driven application content and plan to move forward with custom workflows that do use the MES Connector, you have to either modify those workflows to use the MES Web API or upgrade Work Tasks Connector and Extension for MES. For more information, see the topic "Work Tasks Connector and Extension for MES Installation" in the MES Model‑Driven Application Content Installation Guide.
Platform Common Services (PCS) Framework
PCS Framework is required as it includes the service that provides users with access tokens for MES.
Unless it's already installed, PCS can be installed as part of installing the following products:
The PCS service that provides access tokens is also referred to as AVEVA Identity Manager (AIM), which is the name used throughout this document.
Note: PCS versions that were included in AVEVA product releases prior to the 2023 releases (i.e., prior to AVEVA Platform Common Services version 7.0) will not be compatible.
AVEVA Enterprise License Server and License Manager
The AVEVA Enterprise License Server and License Manager are required to implement the proper product licenses.
Unless it's already installed, License Server and License Manager can be installed as part of installing the following products:
Work Tasks
Work Tasks 2023 SP1 is required.
MES
MES 2023 (version 7.0) is required.
For the Job Management package, hot fix 2724236 can be optionally installed to address the following issue:
This hot fix is provided with the MES model-driven application content installation files.
Note: MES model-driven application content supports only OS Group and OS User MES users, but not native MES users.
BI Gateway
If BI Gateway is being installed to provide MES reporting, BI Gateway 2021 SP 1 is required.
A non-licensed limited version is included with the MES installation software. The full version is optional.
System Platform
For solutions using automated data and event capture, System Platform 2023 Patch 3 [which includes Application Server, Operations Management Interface (OMI), Historian] is required.
If your implementation requires any of the following actions, then the latest update to Work Tasks Connector and Extension for System Platform 2023 Patch 3 is required:
This connector and extension is included with the Work Tasks 2023 SP1 installation software
The Windows operating system and SQL Server versions that are being used in the Model-Driven MES solution impose hardware requirements for the nodes in the solution. Refer to the Microsoft MSDN web site for the hardware requirements for the versions of Windows and SQL Server that are being used.
In addition, to optimize performance it is strongly recommended that the Work Tasks server node has at least 32 GB of RAM and that and all nodes that will support client Work Tasks web browser user sessions have at least 16 GB of RAM. For more hardware requirement details, refer to the Work Tasks Administration Guide help and to the MES Deployment Guide.
Note: For MDM content it is recommended that the Work Task server has a minimum of 4 cores and 16 GB RAM.
For a particular node when implementing MES model-driven application content, the Windows operating system version, SQL Server version, and web browser must be compatible with all of the AVEVA products that are being installed on the node.
For the current compatibility information, see the Technology Matrix, which is available in the Knowledge and Support Center.
The recommended configuration is:
For the web browser, the latest available version of Chrome is recommended.
Note: MES model-driven application content has been optimized for web browsers on Windows devices. While Work Tasks does not support browsers on non-Windows devices, MES model-driven application content has been tested on a limited number of these devices (that is, Android and iPad tablets). Best results were found with Chrome in landscape mode (if the tablet device is used in portrait mode, you might experience limitations in the display of the forms).
For complete system requirements and instructions about how to install a system to support MES model-driven application content and how to install the application content Work Tasks workflow packages, see the MES Model-Driven Application Content Installation Guide.
Updating PCS.Client.DataStore.dll
Note: The following instructions apply if Work Tasks 2023 SP1 has been installed on a system where Work Tasks Extension and Connector for MES 2023 (Version 7.0) is implemented. For additional information, refer to Technical Note 37925.
The updated version of the PCS.Client.DataStore.dll included with Work Tasks 2023 SP1 must replace the one delivered with Work Tasks Extension and Connector for MES 2023 (Version 7.0). The following steps describe how to replace the original MES Connector (Version 7.0) file with the updated one provided with Work Tasks 2023 SP1.
Upgrades to MES Model-Driven Application Content version 6.0 can only be performed from version 4.0, 5.0, or 5.5.
If upgrading from MES Model-Driven Application Content version 3.0 or earlier, you must first upgrade to version 4.0. Then upgrade from version 4.0 to version 6.0.
Work Tasks Connector and Extension for MES
Work Tasks Connector and Extension for MES is no longer required for the standard workflows that are included in the MES model-driven application content. However, if you are upgrading the MES model-driven application content and plan to move forward with custom workflows that do use the MES Connector, you have to either modify those workflows to use the MES Web API or upgrade Work Tasks Connector and Extension for MES to the latest version. For more information, see the topic "Work Tasks Connector and Extension for MES Installation" in the MES Model‑Driven Application Content Installation Guide.
Split Control
In releases prior to MES Model-Driven Application Control version 6.0, the utilization event Split control was included with the Job Management package. It allowed users to select how a utilization event is to be split (setting the new event to precede or follow the existing event) and at what time point to apply the split.
However, starting with version 6.0, the Split control is no longer available. It has been replaced by the Split widget. The Split widget provides all of the functionality of the Split control.
For existing custom applications that use the Split control, you must replace it with the Split widget.
The folder structure of the MES model-driven application content installation files, after being extracted from the installation Zip file, is described below.
