Introduction
This readme document contains important information about the Software Asset Manager (SAM) 4.0 application. Review this document for general system requirements, known issues, CRs, and SAM documentation included in the release.

About This Release
The Software Asset Manager (SAM) is a client appliction that provides
- Automated Wonderware and Citect software Product Updates notification and distribution.
- System inventory from your production machines.
- License inventory from your production machines.
- Support inventory from multiple sites.
- Enhanced user interface and improved user expereince
- License inventory of activation based licenses in addition to .lic based licenses
- Microsoft critical patches inventory from your production machines
- Enhanced reporting capabilities.
The Software Asset Manager provides a secure, reliable and objective means of accessing your system inventory, and provides tools to:
- Validate license usage,
- Provide timely product updates (including Service Packs and Product Patches) and;
- Manage your patch deployment strategy.
The main system components are:
- Software Asset Manager Client: You can install the SAM client on a designated machine that resides at your production site, or on the same machine as your production assets. The SAM client connects with your production machines on the factory floor. You can also use the SAM client to manage your remote or disconnected computers.
- Citect License Utility: A utility delivered with the SAM Client that you run on computers where Citect software is installed, in order to make Citect license information "visible" to the Software Asset Manager. Refer to the Software Asset Manager User Guide for complete installation and usage details.
The Software Asset Manager application requires Administrator-level permissions to work.

System Requirements
This section describes the hardware and software requirements necessary to install SAM 3.0.
Computer Access Requirements
You must have administrator-level user permissions on all machines for which you want Wonderware Software inventory. Consult your IT group to complete this task.
General Requirements: Software Asset Manager Client
- Computer (or Dedicated SAM Server) with 3 GHz or faster processor (32/64 bit). Multi-core processor is strongly recommended.
- 4 GB or greater recommended.
- At least 30 GB of available disk space for 32-bit OS, 40 GB for 64-bit OS.
- Super VGA (1024 x 768) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor.
- Network Interface Card.
- USB compliant port for installation (optional).
- Keyboard.
- Mouse or compatible pointing device.
Hardware Requirements
The following hardware is required to support the Wonderware Software Asset Manager Application.
- Super VGA (1024 × 768) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor.
- CD-ROM or DVD drive for installation.
- Keyboard.
- Mouse or compatible pointing device.

Product Compatibility
The Software Asset Manager has been tested and is supported on machines with Wonderware and Citect Software installed on the same computer.
When detecting supported software installed on the SAM computer, SAM does not check for the Admin Username or Password.

Known Issues
The following issues have been identified for resolution in the next release:
- In deploy tab, when a combination of connected and remote machines are selected to deliver updates - deliver updates button is enabled for remote machine also.
Workaround: N/A
- Offline Utility does not detect activated licenses.
Workaround: N/A
- At release, SAM 4.0 validation of Microsoft Security Updates to indicate supported/not supported status is limited to Security Updates released in the last year.
Workaround:Security Updates released before the last year, as well as their supported/not supported status, will be added and made available in SAM 4.0 incrementally over time.
- Detect operation may take long time on machines having many registry keys and slow networks.
Workaround:N/A
