New Features and Enhancements

Symbolic Support for S7-1200 controllers

Auto-Build Support Extended for S7-1200 and S7-1500 Controllers

The Siemens S7-1200 and S7-1500 controllers supports the built-in Auto-Build functionality. This facilitates a very simple workflow that automatically creates the structure of templates, instances, and connectivity objects in System Platform directly from a PLC (Online Mode).

Support for Cyclic and Block services for Legacy connections

The Cyclic and Block services (earlier supported in DAS SIDRIECT 3.0) is now supported for Legacy Connections. The Cyclic service facilitates to minimize traffic and to collect data faster than 100 milliseconds. The Block service allows you to send blocks of data up to 64KB within a single send job. It can be triggered using a timer, an event, an I/O activity, or a program code.

ArchestrA Data Store Installation as a Prerequisite

The SIDirect OI Server 5.0 utilizes the ArchestrA Data Store (ADS), which is automatically installed as a pre-requisite during the installation.

Symbolic Protocol - Important Information

The following is important information regarding the new Symbolic Protocol

Performance of Legacy Protocol vs. Symbolic Protocol

Siemens has created a new protocol to address the symbolic namespace in their controllers. This protocol is designed with security upfront. The new Symbolic protocol offers different communication throughput performance characteristics in different models of the controllers.

The performance profile varies by PLC model. If your I/O needs exceed 10,000 values per second, see Siemens Support FAQ 98699910 for more information.

Following is a sample throughput performance reference of two S7-1500 controller models.

Legacy protocol

~70,000 values/second

Symbolic Protocol, CPU 1516-3

~12,000 values/second

Symbolic Protocol, CPU 1518-4

~50,000 values/second

These performance figures are for reference only as they will vary by PLC model and by the internal configuration of the controller.

Scalability

Tests were performed using up to 100,000 subscribed tags to a single controller with a single OI Server instance. At this level it is important to consider proper staggered update intervals to maintain the desired throughput.

  3. Double-click Setup.msi to install the SIDirect OI Server. The message "Setup was successful" is displayed when setup is complete.

Silent Installation of SIDirect OI Server

Wonderware Operations Integration - Supervisory SIDirect OI Server supports silent (command line) installation. This features enables non-interactive installation of the OI Gateway.

Silent Installation Syntax:

The basic syntax of the silent installation command consists of the full path to the setup.bat file (typically the DVD drive designation on your local computer), and the command line switch..

<DVD>: CD-SIDIRECT>Silent_Install_Setup.bat /<argument>

The usage instructions can be retrieved by the following command line:

<DVD>: CD-SIDIRECT>Silent_Install_Setup.bat /?

The above command line returns the supported operations - install and uninstall.

To install the SIDirect OI Server

  1. Open a command prompt using Run as administrator
  2. Run the batch file set up with the /install switch.

    C: CD-SIDIRECT>Silent_Install_Setup.bat /install

  3. Wait for the system to display the confirmation message - Silent installation completed successfully.

To uninstall the SIDirect OI Server

  1. Open a command prompt using Run as administrator
  2. Run the batch file set up with the /uninstall switch.

    C: CD-SIDIRECT>Silent_Install_Setup.bat /uninstall
