Installation Instructions

The following prerequisites are installed by the setup program before AVEVA Work Tasks gets installed:

Note:
- AVEVA Work Tasks 2023 requires a product License version 7.0 or higher.

- If you are planning to install any application on the same machine that installs an earlier version of the above prerequisites, then make sure to install that application before installing AVEVA Work Tasks 2023.

- During AVEVA Work Tasks installation, if installation of VS C++ Redistributable2022, Operations Control Logger, Platform Common Service, and Common Licensing API Framework prompt to restart the machine, you can ignore and do a restart after completing installation.

- PCS 7.0 is dependent on the following components in case PCS is getting installed in a Windows Server 2012 R2 environment. Regardless of which method you choose for integration, you need to ensure that the following components are installed before attempting to install the PCS Framework.

Installing AVEVA Work Tasks 2023 Add-in for Microsoft Office Outlook

Run AVEVA Work Tasks 2023-Outlook Add-in.exe to install AVEVA Work Tasks 2023 Add-in for Microsoft Office Outlook.

Note: AVEVA Work Tasks 2023 Add-in for Microsoft Office Outlook is supported for Microsoft Office 2016, 2019, and Office 365. Based on the installed version of Microsoft Office, the respective Add-in components will be installed on the system.

Note: You can view AVEVA Work Tasks 2023 documentation only when installed on a machine with IIS 10 or higher.

Upgrading to AVEVA Work Tasks 2023

Upgrading Scenarios

You can upgrade to AVEVA Work Tasks 2023 from the following versions:

AVEVA Work Tasks 2020
AVEVA Work Tasks 2020 Update 1
AVEVA Work Tasks 2020 Update 2

However, if you want to upgrade from versions earlier than AVEVA Work Tasks 2020, you must first upgrade to AVEVA Work Tasks 2020, and then to AVEVA Work Tasks 2023.

Make sure that the user has appropriate rights for installing and upgrading software on the machine.

Upgrading to AVEVA Work Tasks 2023

When you upgrade the product to AVEVA Work Tasks 2023, the earlier product version is uninstalled and all the files are removed. Therefore, we recommend that you back up the files before upgrading the product.

After the upgrade, you will see the following changes:

When you opt to back up the files during the upgrade process,
- the CentralConfig.xml file is retained in the old AVEVA Work Tasks install folder with a .bak suffix.
- the AWT2020_Backup folder is created in the old AVEVA Work Tasks install path. The existing Locales, Web, and WorkflowElements folders are moved to this backup folder.
AVEVA WorkTasksTemp and AVEVA Work Tasks Cache files are removed from the machine.

Note:
- Customizations to files in Locales, Web, and WorkflowElements folders need to be applied again to the newly created files after an upgrade.
- The SAP Connection list will not be present after an upgrade. The workflows with SAP activities will be replaced with dummy activities, and the workflows may not get executed properly.

Steps to Upgrade

Run AVEVA Work Tasks 2023.exe to upgrade to AVEVA Work Tasks 2023.
The installer splash screen, and then the Prerequisites installation screen appears.
Install the Prerequisites.
Note: The system restarts after installing .NET Framework 4.8.
Click Next after installing the prerequisites.
Perform one of the following:
- Click Yes if you want the installer to take the backup.
- Click No if you do not want the installer to take the backup.
  The installer waits 20 seconds for any input and continues the installation process without backing up the files if no user input is provided.
Click Next.
The system prompts you for the restart.
Click OK if you want to restart the machine.
After restart, on the InstallShield Wizard Completed dialog box, click Finish.
The Upgrade Manager automatically gets launched and performs the following tasks:
- Opens Cryptography Settings window. Provide the Passphrase to proceed.
  Note: While upgrading the product from AVEVA Work Tasks 2020 to AVEVA Work Tasks 2023, you are prompted to provide a Passphrase.
  But the Passphrase is not needed while upgrading from
  - AVEVA Work Tasks 2020 Update 1 to AVEVA Work Tasks 2023
  - AVEVA Work Tasks 2020 Update 2 to AVEVA Work Tasks 2023
- Stops the services and Application Pools.
- Deletes the WorkTasksTemp and Work Tasks Cache files from the machine.

You may be prompted to restart the machine. After the machine is restarted, launch the Upgrade Manager manually using AVEVAWorkTasksUpgradeManager.exe available in the <Installation Path>.

Notes:
- During AVEVA Work Tasks upgrade, if Operations Control Logger, Platform Common Service, and Common Licensing API Framework prompt to restart the machine, you can ignore and do a restart after completing installation. If you opt to restart the machine, the installation does not resume after a restart. You will have to run the installer to continue the installation.

- After the upgrade completes, the Work Tasks services and Application Pools start automatically.

- It is recommended to clear the browser cache on the machines where Enterprise Console site is accessed to get the (js, css, images, etc. files) changes to take effect after the upgrade. For more information on how to clear cache, see the Cache Refresh Settings section in the Administrator Guide.

- Deprecated SQL Server Management Objects (SMO) will not be removed from the system automatically.

Key Features

AVEVA Work Tasks 2023 provides enhanced features and functionalities to further support users in the creation of simple and complex use scenarios and composite applications rapidly.

The following are the new features and enhancements available in AVEVA Work Tasks 2023:

- Generate and download Excel Template of List structure for inserting data
- Import Data from Excel Template to Lists via List Menu Bar option

General Enhancements

Following are the other enhancements for AVEVA Work Tasks 2023 release:

Option to specify Enlist in Advanced Settings while configuring Database Connection.
Option to set custom icon for folders in navigation list.
Option to identify whether a workflow instance is initiated by a user or by a service.
OAuth support for POP3 and SMTP mail configuration.
Refactored caching of License validation.
Support for Farm Recovery when secured communication is enabled.
Support for searching Active Directory (AD) roles having different Aliases or AD Names.
Enhancement to WebAPIs response when inner and outer exceptions are the same.
Widget Container Control Enhancements:
- Support for widget type: Form on web and mobile.
- Option to take available height.
- Pass existing Security Token to Widget Container.
- Support for Form API - getLookupSchemaAndData.
- Handling of upgrades to widgets.
Verification of sending and receiving messages using the latest version of RabbitMQ (3.10.5).
Configurable option to "Disable reply for invalid emails" in mail channel.
Support for considering custom controls as associated artifacts while packaging forms with an embedded form that contains a custom control.
Enhanced Base Form with Display Mode as Grid to show the columns in proper format when present inside an Embed Form control and in the main form.
Consistent naming of root in output XML variable for WebAPI activity.
Performance improvements to Work Tasks Pro.
Support for Azure Authentication enabled SOTI for Work Tasks Pro Android app.

Issues Resolved

The following are improvements and resolved issues in the AVEVA Work Tasks 2023 release:

The Date Time control does not show the selected date in the Calendar popup in the form for first time.
Unable to configure a Registry string value to disable Reply emails for invalid emails.
Sometimes import fails for Forms that contain more number of Invoke Workflow controls.
The content under the Column Headers in the Grid does not match when you rearrange the Column Headers in the Grid or refresh the Grid using API.
An error occurs for Attach DataSource option with Attach Providers check box selected when Database used for Attach DataSource is created and restored in AVEVA Work Tasks 2020 U2.
An issue with the Enterprise Console site logout process.
While creating Active Directory Provider Repository, the Test LDAP is unsuccessful when special characters like < or > are used in the password.
An error "SKRootdefinition is potentially dangerous" is shown when a user passes Input XML value to the Fill Form configured in InTouch OMI.

Known Issues

This section contains important information about the known issues and limitations for AVEVA Work Tasks 2023.

Note: For the existing Known Issues of the product, please refer the Release Notes of the respective product versions. The list of known issues mentioned in earlier releases is also applicable for AVEVA Work Tasks 2023 release.

You might come across the following issues when you work with AVEVA Work Tasks 2023:

You might notice an error "unable to load an assembly because of version mismatch" in the logger until you upgrade the product with the compatible versions of AVEVA Work Tasks, Connectors and Extensions.
Work Tasks now supports OAuth based authentication for POP3 and SMTP emails. Use a valid email address for POP3 or SMTP configuration.
